Last weekend was National Chess Day. Established in 1976, National Chess Day is to encourage people to play chess and improve their critical thinking skills. The Pittsburgh Chess Club honored that day hosting a free entry chess tournament called the Bob Dudley Memorial on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Bob Dudley was an active member of the Pittsburgh Chess Club who published our newspaper the En Passant for 25 years. Dylan Rossi won on the championship section on tiebreaks with a 3-1 score, followed by Narkeeran Narasimhan with 2nd place. For the reserve section, Vijay Erapa won 1st place plaque with a clean sweep of 4-0 with Bill Radovich for 2nd place at 2.5-1.5 wins. In the novice section, Sebastian Lobo-Guerrero won 1st place with a 3.5-0.5 score and 2nd place went to Shourya Autade 3.5-0.5 based on tiebreaks. Patrick Barron directed the event, and the tournament was held at the Pittsburgh Chess Club.

2024 Annual Membership Meeting, Bughouse tournament
Our Annual Membership Meeting is Saturday, October 19, from 12pm-4pm and will be held at the Pittsburgh Chess Club, 5869 Forbes Ave. There will be pizza, light refreshments, door prizes, chess games, bughouse tournament, the Board of Directors election, and award ceremony. The official meeting will start at 12pm – 1pm, and then the Bughouse Championship will follow. All Pittsburgh Chess Club members are encouraged to attend!
