The 2nd Steel City Open held on January 20-21, 2024 was a success with 30 players participating. Benjamin Lin and Zachary Thompson both tied for the top score of 4.0/5.0 in the Championship section, with Benjamin Lin having won the Game 15-min playoff round to earn the 1st place trophy and title of 2nd Steel City Open 2024 Champion. Marko Melishchuk won the Reserve Under 1800 section with a 4.5/5.0 score. Cole Ribson and Keshav Gowda both tied for first in the Novice Under 1000 section with a 4.0/5.0 score. Pat Barron directed the tournament. The 2nd Steel City Open chess tournament was organized by the Pittsburgh Chess Club and held at the JCC Katz Performing Arts Center.
